Join Us For A “Wake” for Bernheim! July 20th Waterfront Park 2pm

Hello Everyone!

As many of you have been hearing in the news, LGE is extending its plans to lock our state and city into a fossil fuel future.
  • LG&E has begun cutting down trees to build a fossil gas pipeline through Bernheim Forest.
  • They are asking for an increase in rates averaging 8.3% for electricity and 11.5% for gas.
  • They are asking the Public Service Commission for a CPCN permission to build 3.7 Billion dollars in new infrastructure to support and expand the use of coal and natural gas.  Read an excellent explanation and submit a comment here:  https://www.k4ed.org/lge-ku.html.
  • Their plan to expand the build out of natural gas power plants is due, in part, to an anticipated demand for more energy to power data centers
  • All ratepayers will be asked to pay for this increase in generation capacity that will be used primarily by private companies.
  • Consider the extra financial expense and the cost to our air, water and public health. Why not use cleaner, cheaper environmentally friendly alternatives?

We will be making the public aware of this coming environmental/financial/health disaster at our next protest at Waterfront Park on Sunday, July 20 at 2pm.We are planning a WAKE for BERNHEIM and an AWAKENING TO PROTEST THE EXPANSION OF  FOSSIL FUEL INFRASTRUCTURE in Louisville.

Please SAVE the DATE

Here is some of what we have planned:
  • A New Orleans style procession of mourners from the Big 4 Bridge in Waterfront Park to the amphitheater complete with a casket, the Raging Grannies, musicians, decorated umbrellas for sun or rain, puppets, and speakers from the Sierra Club, Bernheim Forest and Kentuckians for Energy Democracy.
  • Come to our sign making party at 10 am on Saturday, July 19th at All Peoples Congregation, 4936 Brownsboro Rd.  Again, please SAVE the Date.
Please help us to spread the word through social media and your environmental connections. Watch for updates and a graphic designed to draw attention to LG&E’s retrograde plans that will keep us stuck in dirty energy for the foreseeable future.
