Safe and Stable Housing For All
As you all likely know, the Jsutice Cetner was a part of the Safe and Stable Housing for All Campaign — advocating for the city to include essential funding in this year’s buget to support our unhoused neighbors. The Justice Center was able to engage 25 congregations to advocate with their Metro Council members in support of this campaign
This campaiogn was partically successsful in terms of securing the funding we need for our neighbors. More importantly, this campaign was tremendously successful in bringing a coalition together to organize towards these goals.
Support our Commitment to Sustainable Community
The Renewable Energy Alliance of Louisville (REAL) led a request from the environmental groups to Metro Council that $500,000 be addedto this year’s budget to pay for solar panels on metro government owned properties. This ask was intened to assist us to the goals laid out in the 2020 “100% Renewable energy Resolution:
- 100% clean renewable electricity for Metro government operations by 2030
- 100% clean energy for Metro government operations by 2035
- 100% clean energy community-wide by 2040
Ultimately, Metro Council did not include this funding in the current budget. However, the organizing effort did make some dignificant inroads towars this goal including:
- Nine meetings with Council meetings
- A Coordnated campaign involving between the environmental organizations, and engaging several local congregations (through the Interfaith Environmental Action Network)
- A commitment by Council members Owen and Remo-Weber to hold monthly meetings to plan a campaign for the city to pursue clean energy.
The Interfaith Environmental Action Network, which is facilitated by the Justice Center, helped by organizing congregations to participate in the efforts this past year, and created the postcards that were used as a part of this campaign.
