From the Director
“I see that this time is both a very dark time and, potentially, a very bright time. It is important to hold these truths togethter. When I look down at the ground of the present, I feel depressed, If I lift my head to the horizon, I see a different picture. This is not the chaos of the beginning of something. This is the chaos of the end of something.

Dear Friends — I start this newsletter with a plea. This is an exciting moment for the Justice Center. We have a real opportunity to grow in the coming Fiscal Year. We have received a $5000 matching gift. We
had a goal to raise $5000 by the end of May, but with this gift, we now have increased this goal to raise $10,000. I’m hoping I can count on you! You know the impact that we’re having. Please consider contributing now. You can make a

The quote above is from Rebecca Solnit’s latest book “
The Beginning Comes after the End“. Her book, reflected in the quote above, positions this socio-political moment as terrifying, but also hopeful. This may well be a moment when things are breaking (or more accurately, things we cherish or systematically being broken) but breaking can also mean breaking
open.
From my vantage point, I am seeing and experiencing tremendous evidence of the ways that we all, in countless ways, are working to rebuild better and stronger and more compassionately even while the breaking continues. I see communities coming together, new relationships happening, sustained efforts to make a better world, expressions of joy and celebration! This is not to diminish the fear or harm that we’re all also experiencing. It is to lift up that both are happening.
I am so excited about the upcoming Prayer Breakfast for the Safe and Stable Housing for all Campaign, and then the Democracy Festival followed very quickly by a host of opportunities during Pride month that are occuring throughout the city. It’s a blessing to be in it with yall!
