Street Protest as part of Social Change (Sept 11)
Rus partnered with Carla Wallace from LSURJ to facilitate this workshop. The focus of this “skill up” was twofold: a) to clarify how street protesting is an important part of broader efforts to create social change and b) to explore ways that we can attend street protests in ways that maximize our impact and minimize our potential harm. 27 people from across the community attended.
Give for Good (Sept 18)
This is the first year that the Justice Center participated in Give for Good. We set an initial goal to raise $5000. As we continued our planning, it became clear that we would surpass that goal, and so we raised the goal to $7000. THANKS to many of you we surpassed that goal and raised a total of $7500 from 65 individual donors. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate your support to our work and our mission!
Communities of Faith in Solidarity with Trans Folx (Sept 21)
Madelyn Spalding from the Louisville Youth Group joined Rus in a conversation about the ways that All Peoples and all faith communities can act in solidarity with Trans People. As you all know, our Trans neighbors and family are facing some extreme harm from both our state legislature and our federal administration. As people of faith, we are called to love our neighbors! 23 people joined for this conversation.
The Rise of Anti-Semitism (Sept 25)
Trent Spooltra joined Reb Bruce Beisner to explore the current rise of Anti Semitism that we are facing (based on Department of Justice Stats and the Anti Defamation League). Nearly 30 people from the community joined in this conversation to learn more about the dynamics related to this increase we’re experiencing and learn what we can do to help support our Jewish Friends and neighbors.
