Jewish tradition teaches that the first words out of a Jew’s mouth in the morning are words of gratitude and thanksgiving. Gratitude is the lens through which Jews are instructed to view and interact with the world, informing how we show up in our world through acts of love. It is through the recognition of gratitude and acts of love that we can truly get closer to God. Rabbi Matt Derrenbacher serves as Assistant Rabbi of Congregation Adath Israel Brith Sholom, Kentucky’s oldest and largest Jewish synagogue. He is a graduate of Hebrew Union College in Cincinnati and received a Master of Divinity from the Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary.
