Ernest G. Weill, 75, of Louisville, KY, passed on June 17, 2026. Ernie loved cheering on the Kentucky Wildcats (loudly) and, in his younger years, would enjoy many hours of enthusiastic driveway basketball with his family. Also a fantastic cook, he once won a complete cookware set in a Good Morning America recipe contest for his Southwest stew. Ernie’s pecan pie and Kentucky Hot Browns are among his culinary legacies as well. A vociferous believer in human rights, fairness, and equality, Ernie supported many political and social justice causes in his community and through his church, of which he was an active member for many years. His dedication to these issues could be heard in his informed, incisive voice shared in a lively debate. Ernie also was known for a healthy level of snark and a witty rejoinder in most conversations. What Ernie lacked in singing ability, he made up for in his love of great music.

Preceded in death by his parents, Ernest A. Weill III and Mary Morgan; his brother, John Bruce Weill; his sister, Ana Weill; and his sister-in-law, Jennie Weill.

Left to cherish his memory are his partner, LeeAnn Bernier; his daughters, Megan Iweimrin (John Wells), Jennifer Karman (Michael Karman), and Jacqueline Boals (McCracken Posten); his son, Nathan Weill (Kitty Chen); his siblings, Larry Weill, Rhoda Weill, and Linda Davis; his grandchildren, Jackson, Zoe, Elle, Natasha, Zachary, and Mia; and also Orion, Jonah, Madeline, Michael, and Isabella; as well as many nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren; his step-children, Glynnis and Aubrey Bernier-Clarke; his dog Frodo, and many dear friends.

Ernie’s celebration of life will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, August 1, 2026 at All People’s Universalist Church (4936 Brownsboro Road). A lunch will follow the service at the church.
