EV (Electric Vehicle) Road Tax OK-But Don’t Tax Owners Twice!

To pay their fair share, EV owners can make peace with the $120 road tax fee , but that should be the end of it” says Mike Proctor, a Member of the Board of Directors of EVOLVEKY, Kentucky’s non-profit EV advocacy group.

Based on conversations with lawmakers, lawmakers said that the Excise Tax at charging stations was intended to garner revenue from out of State EV drivers who use our roads and pay no road tax. The Excise Tax ( $0.03/KWH on $0.49/KWH electricity ) is also being levied on slower EV chargers at parks and libraries and YMCA’s and Churches and ….. Many of these slow chargers are free to use, provided by civic minded businesses and local governments. (AND CHURCHES like All Peoples!)

Evolve KY recommends: dropping the levy on the slower ( Level 2 ) chargers that Kentucky drivers will use at some of their favorite destinations. This Excise Tax falls heaviest on Kentucky condo and apartment residents who don’t have the luxury of charging at home and must rely on chargers out in the community.
