Rus Funk

Rus Ervin Funk, is a social worker and certified sexuality educator. He is a long-time justice activist and organizer — primarily focusing on racial and gender justice and a long time UU. In the 1990’s, while a member of Sojourner Truth Unitarian Congregation in Washington, DC, He launched the Greater Washington Social Action Network — a network of the social justice committees and efforts of the UU Congregations in the Greater Washington DC area.

He has organized efforts throughout the United States and in various other countries. He is co-founder, for example of the People’s Coalition for Justice (in Washington, DC), the Washington Area Clinic Defense Task Force, Men for Gender Justice (in Malta), and the North American MenEngage Network (in the US and Canada) among many others.

His is grounded in intersectional practice, and focuses on advancing a human rights framework. Rus is also an active author. In 1993, he published the first book by a man, for men about stopping rape (Stopping Rape:  A challenge for men) and has written widely since then.

Rus enjoys photography, gardening, hiking and camping, baking; and lives in the Highlands neighborhood with his partner Amy, their child Kiernan, and a cat, “Appa” who belongs to himself.
